SPAN 321: Masterpieces of Hispanic Literature
Description
Reading and discussion of selected masterworks of literature as they reflect the historical, political, and social context of the Peninsular Spanish experience. Students will be introduced to reading and writing critically, and discussing both form and content within these works. All discussions will be carried out in Spanish. (Offered every fourth semester.)
Reflective Narrative:
This class fulfills MLO 3, Literacy and Cultural Knowledge. This class covers a thousand years of Hispanic literature which was a very hard task to cover. We learned about famous authors and poets that had a very big effect on Latin American culture. Everyday we would learn about the lives and stories of 2-3 authors. Throughout the semester it was very hard to retain a thousand years of literature but we did cover as much as we could starting with the Renaissance all the way until the 20th century. I gained a lot of knowledge from this class but it was hard to retain all at once, with quizzes every other week or so it was easier to keep all of the information together. We analyzed each poem or story and learned how to go further and give our opinions on each of them which helped me create a way to understand my way of analyzing.
Example:
Juan Ramon Jimenez
