SPAN 305: Spanish for The Professions
Description
Designed for students interested in developing a functional use of Spanish for the professions (business, education, law, medicine, social work, etc.), from a Hispanic cultural perspective. Students will have an opportunity to practice and develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The Spanish-speaking world will provide the cultural context, and the area of business the content area. (Offered every fourth semester.)
Reflective Narrative:
This class fulfills the Language/Linguistic core requirement. I very much enjoyed this class because it helped me extend my vocabulary and write day-to-day business letters. It helped me extremely with translating Spanish to English and visa versa. This class will help me in any future career that I will have in the Spanish-speaking world. It taught me to broaden my vocabulary in writing and speaking. We read many things in English which we are use to reading on a day-to-day basis like website, business articles, etc. and then later had to translate into Spanish which I found extremely difficult because even in English I hadn't use that type of vocabulary because I hadn't familiarized myself with that type of wording. As much as I did learn in this class there is so much more that I need to practice. Translating, as easy as it sounds isn't always easy for everyone and I'm one of those people. DRAE was my best friend during this semester, looking up words and phrases constantly but as much repetition that there was it did help throughout the semester.
Example:
Carta de credito
